Tax Manager – High Net Worth & Investments

LOS ANGELES

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager with strong technical expertise in high-net-worth individual taxation, partnership taxation, investment entities, and financial statement analysis. The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing complex tax compliance engagements and the ability to analyze financial information, investment structures, partnership agreements, and contractual arrangements to identify tax implications and opportunities.

 

This position requires a highly analytical tax professional who can work independently, manage complex engagements, and review work performed by others.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Review tax returns prepared by staff for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws.
  • Analyze and interpret Schedule K-1s from investment partnerships, private equity funds, hedge funds, real estate partnerships, and other investment entities.
  • Review complex partnership allocations, capital accounts, outside basis, distributions, debt allocations, and other partnership tax matters.
  • Analyze investment activity and its tax consequences, including gains and losses, carried interests, interest-tracing, partnership investments, passive activities, and other investment-related transactions.
  • Review GAAP financial statements, trial balances, general ledgers, and supporting schedules to identify tax adjustments and ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Perform detailed financial statement analysis and reconcile book income to taxable income.
  • Analyze balance sheets, income statements, cash flow information, and other financial data in connection with tax return preparation and planning.
  • Review and analyze contracts, operating agreements, partnership agreements, purchase agreements, and other legal documents to identify tax consequences and reporting requirements.
  • Manage multiple engagements and deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Communicate directly with clients, investment advisors, attorneys, financial professionals, and other advisors, as necessary.
  • Special Projects as assigned.
  • Assist with tax notices, audits, examinations, and other federal and state tax matters.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced tax professionals.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA license required.
  • Significant experience in public accounting, tax compliance, or a similar professional tax environment.
  • Strong experience with high-net-worth individual taxation, investments taxation and family offices.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and/or reviewing complex individual and partnership tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of investment partnership Schedule K-1s and related tax reporting.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements and reconciling GAAP financial information to tax reporting.
  • Experience with trust, estate, and gift tax matters.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex financial and legal documents, including partnership agreements, operating agreements, investment documents, and contracts.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex engagements with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Salary:  $150k – $180k commensurate with experience
